2 DAY WEST COUNTRY TOUR

EXPLORE THE UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE CITY OF BATH, GLASTONBURY AND STONEHENGE!

TOUR DESCRIPTION

Day 1

I will collect you from Heathrow Airport and drive you to the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath - the city where I was born and live. I will take you to my favourite viewpoint overlooking the city and I will take you on a walking tour of the centre to show you the famous buildings and streets.

During the tour of Bath you will have an unaccompanied visit to the historic Pump Rooms where you will experience the famous English afternoon tea! The Pump Rooms was the place to be seen in during the Georgian times and it is my favourite place to experience an afternoon tea in Bath. After your afternoon tea you will have an unaccompanied visit to the Roman Baths Museum - the main attraction in Bath and located in the same building as the Pump Rooms. The museum houses the remains of the Roman spa that was built over the city's hot springs. Your entrance tickets include a complimentary audio guide. I will be waiting for you at the end of your visit to continue our tour of Bath and to take you to your hotel in Bath. We will reach your accommodation around 4pm.

Day 2

I will collect you from your accommodation in Bath at 8:30am and drive you to Glastonbury approximately 1 hour away,

We will visit the picturesque ruins and gardens of Glastonbury Abbey. The abbey claimed it was built on the site of the earliest Christian monastic site in Britain and went on to become one of the wealthiest abbeys in the country. Monks found, what they claimed to be, the grave of King Arthur and Guinevere in the grounds of the abbey. During the Medieval Times the abbey was a popular pilgrimage destination as people came to see the grave and the many holy relics of saints that were kept at the abbey.

After visiting the abbey you will have the option to climb to the Glastonbury Tor or spend more time in the centre visiting some of Glastonbury's unique and unusual shops. There are shops where you can buy minerals, crystals, goods relating to the Vikings, art, spiritual and magical items and much more!

The Glastonbury Tor is one of the most famous landmarks in the region and like the abbey it is steeped in legends. If you decide to visit the Tor I will show you the location of the White and Red Springs which are said to have healing properties. The walk from the bottom of the hill to the top of the hill where the Tor is located takes approximately 20 minutes depending on your fitness. There are around 260 steps and so it is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties. From the top you will be rewarded with panoramic views and I will explain about the legends behind the Tor.

After our tour of Glastonbury I will drive you to Stonehenge, just over 1 hour away. We will stop off for lunch at a village pub on route. At Stonehenge I will guide you around the Visitor Centre and the stone circle - pointing out interesting features and explaining about the history behind Stonehenge. I have been to talks by the archaeologists and I will share some of the most recent discoveries with you. From Stonehenge we will continue to your accommodation in Southampton, arriving around 6pm.
