There is always a lot happening in Bath! If you are visiting in November or December here are some famous events and activities you may be interested in:
Remember, Remember the 5th November!
Here in England we have a rather unique celebration which marks the failed attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament - Guy Fawkes Night! Across the country huge firework displays light up the sky. If November 5th does not fall on the weekend, which is the case this year, the displays are often held on the weekend before or after. Last year I did an interesting blog post about this quintessentially English event - you can read it here.
If you would like to attend one of the firework displays in Bath then two famous displays are:
Friday 1st November - the Bath Racecourse Fireworks Display. This takes place on the edge of Bath (not walking distance from the centre) at the Bath Racecourse. Gates are expected to open around 5pm with the fireworks starting around 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased here.
Saturday 2nd November - the Bath Rotary Club Fireworks Display. This takes place in the centre of Bath at the Bath Recreation Ground (known locally as "The Rec"). Gates open at 4:30pm and the fireworks will start around 6pm. Advance tickets are required. You can purchase these here.
Bath Mozartfest
This annual festival of classical music takes place at historic locations across the city and features world-renowned artists. The festival takes place between 8th and 16th November. For more information and tickets please click here.
Bath Christmas Market!
The city of Bath is renowned for its annual Christmas market. The streets in the centre of Bath are lined with over 230 chalets offering food, beverages and potential Christmas gifts! Many of the chalets are run by local businesses selling artisan products such as hand-made jewellery, homeware and more. This year the market runs from Thursday 28th November to Sunday 15th December. There is a website dedicated to the market where you can see a list of the stallholders and what they are selling as well as a map and the opening hours - please click here. The market is very popular with British tourists and the centre of Bath can get very crowded. If you are staying in Bath during this time I highly recommend you make advance reservations for your dinner. For suggestions on restaurants please check my blog post here.
Fun Family Activities!
Between the 15th November and 5th January locals and visitors can enjoy two seasonal activities: outdoor ice-skating on a small artificial rink and Glow Golf - adventure golf with glow-in-the-dark golf balls! Great for families and the young-at-heart! Located next to each other, these activities are held in the centre of Bath at the Royal Victoria Park. Advance booking is highly recommended. You can read more here.
I hope the above gives you some interesting ideas for your stay in the area. If you need any further suggestions, whether it be for this year or the next, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
