If you follow international news you may have heard of the "Great Cheese Robbery"! Back in October thieves posing as wholesalers stole 950 truckles of artisan Cheddar Cheese. This equated to over 22 tonnes of cheese worth over £300,000! One person has been arrested but as yet the cheese has not been found. There are rumours that the cheese is on its way to Russia where it will be worth a lot of money on the black market following Russia's ban on Western produce. These are rumours though, if you are offered cheap Cheddar Cheese this Christmas it may not be just the cheese that is smelling iffy!
Cheddar Cheese is Britain's favourite cheese, did you know it was invented not far from Bath? The place is called ... Cheddar! Originally to be called Cheddar Cheese it had to be made within that region but now anyone in the world can make Cheddar Cheese - although it is often not made the traditional way. In the village of Cheddar however there is a small factory which still makes Cheddar Cheese the traditional way. During my Wells and Cheddar Tour we get to visit this factory where you can see them making the cheese and of course taste some authentic Cheddar Cheese!
The Cheese factory recently restarted their VIP experiences - which is great for cheese-lovers! On Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays they offer a small group tour (maximum 8 people) where one of their experts will take you on a tour of the small factory to give you a more in-depth insight into the Cheddar Cheese making process. The experience includes a cheese-grading demonstration and of course a cheese-tasting session where you can try some of their award-winning Cheddar Cheeses! Throughout the experience you can take photos and ask as many questions as you like. I recently did this VIP experience with 2 lovely guests and had a fantastic time - I highly recommend it for people who enjoy their cheese. I can adjust my Wells and Cheddar Tour to accommodate this experience so if this is of interest please get in touch so that I can first check their availability.
