If you are visiting Bath this September do not be surprised if you see people walking around in period costume! Bath's annual Jane Austen Festival is taking place between the 10th September and the 19th September. Jane Austen lived in Bath for a number of years and writes about Bath in some of her books. Traditionally the festival attracts people from across the world who dress up in Regency costume and go to balls, talks and Jane Austen themed tours. Festival-goers are often happy to be photographed in their costumes but please do ask for permission first! For me the most exciting event is the Grand Regency Costumed Promenade when the festival-goers promenade through the city centre in their costumes. It is free to watch and a fun spectacle to behold. This year the promenade will be taking place on Saturday 11th September at 11am. It will start at the Holburne Museum and end at the Parade Gardens, ending around 12pm. For more information about the festival please click here.
Families and couples may be interested to know that on the weekend of the 17th-19th September there will be an outdoor cinema located in the Royal Victoria Park with the magnificent Royal Crescent providing the back-drop to the screen. It promises to be a unique way to spend your evening in Bath! This year the cinema will be showing Notting Hill, The Greatest Showman and Star Wars: A New Hope. The films starts at 7:30pm. Pre-booking is essential. For more information please click here.
Visitors interested in local food should head to Milsom Street on the weekend of the 24th-26th September where they can enjoy the Great Bath Feast. The event is a celebration of food and drink from the South West of England and includes Chef Demos, street-food and entertainment. Milsom Street is located at the top of the city centre. For more information please visit their website here.
Between the 11th and 26th September there is a festival perfect for walkers and hikers: the Bathscape Walking Festival. The festival is a series of walks in and around Bath, each one led by a walk leader so you do not need to worry about getting lost! The city of Bath has a fantastic location - surrounded by beautiful countryside - this festival gives you the chance to explore our beautiful scenery. Places need to be booked so please visit their website where you can read more about the different walks on offer including the walk distances and short descriptions.
